Free the Israeli Hostages from Hamas

The ACLJ Takes Immediate Action at the U.N. To Free Israeli Hostages

Jordan Sekulow

November 14th, 2023

The ACLJ has just taken immediate action at the United Nations on behalf of several families whose family members have been taken hostage by Hamas. We have shared with you the heart-wrenching stories of some of the individuals who were taken hostage on October 7, 2023. Now, we are legally representing families of the Israeli hostages who were taken by Hamas and have just taken action at the United Nations to bring those hostages home.

One of the many ways we are working to help bring the hostages home is through filing submissions with the U.N. Working Group on Enforced or Involuntary Disappearances (WGEID). The primary mandate of this WGEID is to help families learn the whereabouts of their family members who have disappeared and eventually to see their safe return home. To assist the WGEID in identifying these individuals and learning their whereabouts, we filed separate submissions for four of the Israeli hostages, detailing their stories and the horrors they experienced on October 7, 2023.

We have just received notification that the U.N. WGEID has received them. Now the U.N. working group is required to request that the State or State-sponsored group responsible for the disappearances carry out an investigation and report back on the status of the missing individuals.

Additionally, the U.N. WGEID is required to continue to follow up with these investigations periodically, which means that these entities will continue to be pressured by the working group until they comply. While we understand that they may not comply with the WGEID’s request, it is critical that we utilize all options at our disposal to pressure them into releasing the hostages.

This also puts the U.N. on notice and puts pressure on its member nations not to ignore the plight of these hostages who were ripped from their homes and families and are being subject to the most horrific experience of their lives. The world must not turn a blind eye to this evil.

Stand with the ACLJ as we fight and stand up for the victims who have been abducted by Hamas.
