Save Christians in Afghanistan
ACLJ Delivers Critical Intervention at the U.N. Urging International Action To Protect Dying Christians in Afghanistan
Jordan Sekulow
March 29th, 2022
Christians in Afghanistan are facing unimaginable terror under the harsh fist of the Taliban. We are taking EMERGENCY ACTION right now to defend them.
It’s heartbreaking; but just as we told you, President Biden’s disastrous withdrawal of U.S. military forces from Afghanistan opened the door to let the Taliban reemerge and seize power. Now the lives of countless Christians, unmarried women and girls, and even abandoned U.S. citizens are literally in grave danger.
We recently told you that the ACLJ would be taking action to defend persecuted and dying Christians in FIVE of the most dangerous countries in the world to be a follower of Christ.
I personally just delivered a critical oral intervention, via video, to the U.N. Human Rights Council (HRC) through our European affiliate – the European Centre for Law and Justice (ECLJ) – urging immediate intervention to protect Afghan Christians and defenseless young women from the vicious Taliban. No one deserves to be brutalized, abused, or murdered because of their faith.
As I stated in my presentation:
The ECLJ would like to address the extremely dangerous situation currently threatening the lives of Christians, religious minorities, and women in Afghanistan under the harsh rule of the Taliban.
While the world is understandably focused on Russia and Ukraine, the Taliban continues to commit brutal human rights abuses. Since it seized control of Afghanistan, the Taliban has begun a campaign of violence and terror against Christians and other religious minorities, as well as atrocities against women.
Almost immediately after President Biden turned his back on Afghanistan, there were reports of the Taliban going door to door looking for anyone who aided U.S. troops, as well as seeking Christians to kill and unmarried women to take captive. Christians are hiding in their homes fearing what the Taliban will do to them – a genocidal persecution.
Our own contact with a team on the ground in Afghanistan confirmed that “men, women and children are subjugated, beaten, and executed for their beliefs that differ from the tyrannical Taliban.”
Enough is enough. Innocent Christians are running out of time, but unfortunately, much of the world’s attention is understandably focused on Ukraine and Eastern Europe. The Taliban is not a legitimate government. It is a barbaric terrorist militia, and its intentions are no mystery – targeting Christians for death. If the world does not act, and quickly, it may be too late for many Christians.
As my presentation to the HRC stated bluntly, time is running out for Afghan Christians:
Afghanistan has now been rated as the worst place in the world for Christians by a leading human rights organization. Many Christians rightly fear they will be hunted down, abused, and even killed because of their faith.
We know from history that this is only the beginning. Swift action must be taken now to stop the violence, loss of life, and human rights violations committed at the hands of the Taliban. Christians, religious minorities, and women in Afghanistan are running out of time.
The ACLJ has launched our biggest initiative in years to SAVE DYING CHRISTIANS. 16 Christians die every single day around the world because of their faith. We have a Biblical mandate to defend our Christian brothers and sisters all over the world. Scripture says that “whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.” (Matthew 25:40)
As we stand before the international community and demand international action, we need you to act with us. Sign our urgent petition.
