Court Orders Criminal Case Against Parwasha’s Attackers in Pakistan
ACLJ Staff Writers
Decemeber 21st, 2015
The European Centre for Law and Justice’s (ECLJ) affiliate in Pakistan, the Organization for Legal Aid (OLA), won a big victory in court earlier today to defend Parwasha by ensuring her Muslim attackers are brought to justice.
It happens far too often in Pakistan - a Muslim family had a vendetta against a Christian family because of their faith. So, in this case, they attacked an 8-year-old Christian girl after abducting her, hitting her, stripping off all of her clothes and leaving her on the street.
After town authorities refused to prosecute her attackers and arrested Parwasha’s family based on a complaint by the Muslim family, our office in Pakistan immediately acted. Our attorneys on the ground prepared a legal petition to the Pakistani court to prosecute Parwasha’s attackers.
On December 21st, our attorneys went to court, where the judge ordered the police to register a criminal case against the Muslim family. After reading our entire petition and hearing the arguments, the judge ordered the police to do the right thing in the name of justice by registering the criminal case against Parwasha’s attackers.
The opposing counsel argued that the filing of charges was in retaliation to the Muslim family’s case against Parwasha’s family. But the judge agreed with us, giving a vital victory that is a big step towards justice for Parwasha.
Next up, the case should go to trial and we will present the clear evidence of the case. Our work is not yet done.
Join our fight by praying for Parwasha as we fight in court. Innocent little Christian children must be protected from those who wish to prey on them in Pakistan.
