UN Human Rights Council Submissions and Oral Interventions

President Trump Aware of American Pastor Andrew Brunson’s Plight

At Monday’s White House Press Briefing, White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer was asked about the plight of American Pastor Andrew Brunson, wrongfully imprisoned in Turkey.

Here’s the full exchange:

This is hopeful and encouraging as our team at the ACLJ begins high-level meetings on Capitol Hill this week as part of our multi-pronged global advocacy to free Pastor Andrew and seek justice on behalf of him and his family.

Because of your voice and support, our advocacy is working. But we must not let up.

After we submitted written testimony and oral intervention at the U.N. Human Rights Council and sent a legal letter to Secretary of State Tillerson, Pastor Brunson’s wife met with Secretary Tillerson and received a personal letter from Vice President Pence.

As Vice President Pence stated: “Andrew’s case remains a top priority of the U.S. government . . . . I can assure you both that the State Department and this White House, under President Trump’s leadership, consider Andrew’s release and reunification with you and your three children extremely important.”

The White House has now clearly reiterated this fact.

We will not back down from the fight for Pastor Andrew’s freedom. He must not be forgotten.

Pastor Andrew still sits in an overcrowded prison cell, facing absurd trumped-up charges for his Christian faith despite no evidence being presented against him.

Our advocacy must continue until he has justice and freedom. We continue to amplify his plea to President Trump: “Please do not leave me here in prison.”
